Midsummer...

..not the weather here in the UK that's for sure, but the shawl which was designed as a Mystery Stole Project for May & June this year by the Goddess Knits. I Joined after the 1st clue had been posted and by the time I got my yarn the last clue had been started, so I decided I would leave it for awhile.

Fate had other ideas.... one of our oldest & closest friends, Janet had a little girl back in February and she asked both myself and my husband to be Godparents in September. I decided as I'd bought the yarn in white (intending to dye it myself for this shawl) that I may as well knit the shawl for her christening. I'm not intending the shawl to be a traditional christening shawl, but if her mum wants to use it at the christening that will be nice, but I'd like it to be used as Sarah grows up (both Janet & I are very practical about things)....

Anyway here are the photos and plenty of them...

Blocking on my new mats, thanks for the tip Linda, they're great according to DH, as the pins stay where you put them!!!! As I used smaller needles (DH calculated 10% smaller) we blocked it at a respectable 74" by 40"

Close up's of the various patterns....

and finally the finished shawl.... I actually like it more now than I thought I did, the final edging seemed a bit heavy to me on the pattern but when I see it's lovely..... I am very pleased with it.

Details:

  • 4.5mm Knit Picks Options (pattern state 5mm)
  • 3 x 50g balls of Yarn Treehouse "Classic" fingering weight 100% wool in "Vanilla" (pattern said 250g)

It's exquisite! I love her patterns. You are such a fast knitter, too. Did you get bored knitting white?

It's staying white spinayarn, I was originally going to dye the yarn to knit it but then the christening thing came along.....

Yes I did get bored knitting white Fleegle.... :( I don't like red, white or black as colours in general although there are some burgundy reds I like... think its being a pale skinned blonde as these colours do nothing for me as clothes ;)

I am a 'fidgety knitter' I can't sit still for long before I go check my email, make a drink, just do this or that.....

Really lovely and your goddaughter will treasure it more with every year.

(....and errr...let's keep this quiet for now, because my gorgeous goddaughter so far has only had socks - for her and her iPod! they don't have quite the same heirloom tone about them. I've got some serious catching up to do!!!)

Beautiful, Beautiful, just BEAUTIFUL. You've made a wonderful shawl that will truly be treasured. I love the pattern.

You asked about blocking the Colourmart silk. I washed it several times to make sure that I got all the oil out. There didn’t seem to be much oil to begin with. Then I used my blocking wires and pinned it out. You can email me at knitsanity@gmail.com if you want more specifics.

That is simply beautiful and will be treasured I'm sure.

I'm glad the blocking boards were useful - I've used mine loads. :0)

That's gorgeous! Your goddaughter is a lucky little girl to get such a lovely gift. Well done!

And question: where can one get some of those fab blocking mats? I love the idea of pins staying in place! :-)
